The memorial of 5 fighting soldiers is cast in bronze and was sculpted by Albert Toft. The Book of Remembrance is housed in the base of the memorial.
It was unveiled by General Sir Ian Hamilton in April 1923 before a crowd estimated at over 10,000. It cost £20,000 which was raised by public subscription.
The memorial stands in the town centre, in front of St Mary's Parish Church
