Wicres Churchyard

Wicres is a small village in the Department of the Nord, some 8 kilometres north-north-east of La-Bassée, on the Béthune-Lille road (N41). There are six identified and two unidentified Commonwealth war graves of the Great War in two plots of 4 either side of the church.

Pte. J. B. FOX, 2/6th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers. 13th June 1917, aged 19. Son of James and Sarah Fox of 15 Pennsylvania Road, Club Moor, Liverpool. Grave 8


Pte. A. HAYWARD, 14th Bn. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. 5th June 1916, aged 19. Son of William John and Ethel Mary Hayward of 33 Llantevel Road, Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Grave 4


Pte. Walter JENKINS,1/7th Bn. Middlesex Regt. 26th Feb. 1917, aged 27. Son of Frederick and Susan Jenkins of Rushton, Taunton, Somerset. Grave 1


Second Lt. R. G. PRINGLE, 8th Bn. Highland Light Inf. 23rd April 1917. Grave 7


Capt. Hugh Powell WILLIAMS, 14th Bn. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. 5th June 1916, aged 33. Son of Griffith Powell and Elizabeth E. Williams of Criccieth, Carnarvonshire; husband of the late Fanny L. Williams. Grave 3
