Robert McArthur

Son of Daniel and Catherine McArthur, of 5, Wadham St., Brompton Park, South Australia.
His headstone bears the inscription; "Thy Will Be Done."
A labourer from Brompton Park, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with B Company from Adelaide on 18 November 1918 aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) for Suez. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France during June 1916. Pte McArthur was hospitalised for three weeks in late January 1917 due to an accidental injury while acting as the Company cook. He attended the Anzac Cookery School in late September that year. Pte McArthur was wounded in action near Vaux-sur-Somme on 28 May 1918 and died of these wounds later that day at 8th Australian Field Ambulance. He was aged 30 years.

Merlin was asleep in a tent when a bombardment commenced, a shell burst close by and a shell splinter hit Merlin as he slept. He managed to exit the tent but collapsed and died almost immediately.

His headstone bears the inscription; "Out Of The Stress Of The Doing Into The Peace Of The Done."
437 Sapper, James Grant gave the following details of Charlie Poulton's death;
"Between 9 and 9.30 on the evening of May 30th, we were at La Neuville, near Corbie, and Poulton was in a dug-out. A High Explosive shell fell there and Poulton was badly injured, his right arm being severed. He lived 10 minutes. I was 10-15 yards away and heard the shell. I saw him after he was hit and helped carry him to the Dressing Station."
Charlie Poulton spent most of his time in the front line with the rest of his company, however, due to his small stature he had been sent out of the line and was working as a cook at the time he was killed.

"On 27th May, about 4 o'Clock in the afternoon on the Ancre, just outside of Corbie. Price was a cook, a shell fell just outside the cook house within 2 yards of him. He was blown to the edge of the river. Killed instantly, more by concussion than anything else. He was not knocked about. he was taken away on a stretcher and buried somewhere near."
