Chestres French National Cemetery is on the south side of the village, approximately 3.5 kilometres north-east of Vouziers.
History Information
Chestres French National Cemetery contains more than 1,100 French war graves and two ossuaries containing the remains of a further 1,475 unidentified French soldiers.
The cemetery contains four Commonwealth burials of the First World War, one of which was brought in from Poix-Terron Communal Cemetery in 1934, and two from Tannay Communal Cemetery in 1935.
Burial Details
53707 Gunner Charles William Day, 26th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, died 28th September 1918, aged 36. Born at Portridge Pit, Burghclere. Son of George and Eliza Day, of Horton.
265556 Serjeant D. Noble, 1/6th Bn. Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), died 6th July 1918, aged 29. Son of William and Isabella Noble, of Ardross, Ross-shire. His headstone bears the inscription "Till He Comes"
46495 Private C. Phillips, 19th Bn. Machine Gun Corps, died 9th July 1918.
