Location Information

Cronenbourg is a western suburb of the town of Strasbourg and is easily reached from Strasbourg station. The Cemetery is about 2 kilometres from the railway station on the Place du Souvenir français, 67200.


History Information

Cronenbourg Cemetery was used during the 1914-1918 War for French and Allied burials (including eight British casualties but mostly Russian and Rumanian soldiers). Further graves were added later from the following cemeteries - CHATENOIS COMMUNAL CEMETERY (Alsace) MOLSHEIM COMMUNAL CEMETERY (Alsace) SCHERWILLER COMMUNAL CEMETERY (Alsace) VILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY (Alsace) There are now 15, 1914-18 and 14, 1939-45 war casualties commemorated in this site. A special memorial is erected to one British soldier from the 1914-18 War, whose grave cannot be located.

Total Burials: 29.

World War One Casualties: United Kingdom 15.

World War Two Casualties: United Kingdom 6, Australia 5, New Zealand 2, Canada 1. Total 14.

Identified in the front row, second from the right and buried in this cemetery is 417454 Flying Officer Ronald William Brown, Royal Australian Air Force, died 29th July 1944, aged 21. Son of William Octavious and Edith Eliza Ann Brown; husband of Iris Hall Brown, of Prospect, South Australia. His headstone bears the inscription "Hearts That Loved You Never Forget"
