​Location Information

Haverskerque is a village and commune in the north of France on the main D916 road between St Venant and Morbecque, two large villages south of Hazebrouck. The Churchyard is located in the centre of the village.

Burial Details

240360 Driver Ernest Barker, 80th Battery 15th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, died 13th April 1918, aged 36. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barker, of 6, Lewis St., Shade, Todmorden. His Headstone bears the inscription "He Liveth For Evermore" Grave is near the north side of the church.

3/69 Private Walter George Lodge, 6th Bn. Wiltshire Regiment, died 31st July 1915. Son of George and Emma Lodge.

Walter joined the Essex regiment in 1898. He served for 12 years in South Africa and India, winning the King's South Africa medal with 4 clasps and the Queen's South Africa medal with 2 clasps. He then re-enlisted for a further 4 years and served in Dublin, Bangalore and Wellington. For WW1 he re-enlisted to the 6th (Service) Battalion Wiltshire Regiment as Private no. 3/69. He died 'on the march' at Haverskerque in northern France and is buried in the north-east corner of the churchyard there.
