Visiting Information

The Commonwealth graves are near the entrance, in a vault under the village War Memorial.


Historical Information

Orly-sur-Morlin was taken in September 1914 by the 8th and 9th Infantry Brigades. 

The communal cemetery contains ten Commonwealth burials associated with this incident, six of them unidentified.



Burial details

8879 Private E. Farrell, 2nd Bn. Royal Irish Regiment, died 8th September 1914. Husband of Mary Farrell of Cappadeen, Ballinahinch, Newport, Co. Tipperary

Captain Anthony Morris Coats Hewat, Royal Scots, died 8th September 1914, aged 29. Son of Lt. Col. Henry R. C. Hewat and Jessie McKenzie Hewat of Fayre Oakes, Hereford; husband of Stella Eleonora Hutton (formerly Hewat)

5417 Private P. Lydon, 2nd Bn. Royal Irish Regiment, died 8th September 1914.

10897 Private W. Power, 2nd Bn. Royal Irish Regiment. 8th September 1914, aged 26.
