regret having to write to you informing you of the death of your son on Monday, October 28th. It will be some relief for you to know that he suffered no pain, and, what may seem strange to you, he was not wounded at all. The shell burst right by his bivouac when he and three of his comrades were inside. Two of his comrades were killed instantly and your son died just before he reached the dressing station, from concussion. He is buried in the British Military Cemetery."
