Location Information

Terramesnil is a village in the Department of the Somme, south of the town of Doullens on the D23 road to Puchevillers. In the north-west corner of the communal cemetery are three burials, one of the Great War and two of the 1939-1945 War. 
​ 


World War One Burial

32121 Gunner Robert Ernest Reid, 4th Division Ammunition Col. Royal Field Artillery, 26th July 1915.


World War Two Burials


1368456 Sergeant John McClean Stewart, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 617 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 11th December 1943 aged 22. Son of John and Mary Stewart of Cupar, Fife.

R/117355 Warrant Officer Class II Donald Menzies Thorpe, Air Gunner in 617 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 11th December 1943 aged 24. Son of Ralston and Mildred Thorpe of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Flight Details:

RAF Base: Tempsford Beds.
Unit: 617 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Lancaster Mk III, serial ED886
Target: Special Operations
Incident: Crashed at Terramesnil
Warrant Officer. G. F. Bull, Sgt. C. C. Wiltshire, Sgt. C. M. Chamberlain and Flight Sgt. N. Batey were taken prisoner. Flight Sgt. J. H. McWilliams evaded capture.
