Location Information

Vergies is a small village on the Somme, about 30kms south of Abbeville. The cemetery is located South of the village on the Rue De l'Église"


History Information


Vergies Communal Cemetery contains one Commonwealth burial of the First World War and the graves of three Second World War airmen.

7th June 1940, aged 24. 

​Son of George Mathew and Margaret Jamima Vernon, of Glenorchy, Otago, New Zealand.

751819 Sergeant Jack Frederick Atkins, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 150 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 7th June 1940, aged 20. Son of Frederick William and Ellen Edith Maud Atkins, of Reading, Berkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Treasured Memories Of A Dear Son. always In The Thoughts Of His Loving Mum & Dad"

533480 Sergeant George William Clawley, Observer in 150 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 7th June 1940.

12484 Private Robert Marsden Rigby, 2nd Bn. Scots Guards, died 27th October 1916, aged 34. Son of Robert Marsden Rigby and Elizabeth Rigby, of Freckleton; husband of Bertha Rigby, of 73, Kirkham Road, Freckleton, KLirkham, Preston, Lancs. His headstone bears the inscription "Peace Perfect Peace And Rest"
