Son of Albert and Bertha Hadfield, of 35, Queen St., Dukinfield, Cheshire.

A former mill worker, previously he had served in the 1st Battalion King's Liverpool Regiment before re-enlisting with the Manchesters in 1919. He was caught up in the Manchester Column disaster near Hillah on July 24th 1920.

John Henry (Jack) Heathcote was one of over 135 soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of The Manchester Regiment killed in action at Hillah in Mesopotamia (Iraq) on the evening of Saturday July 24th 1920. He came from Audenshaw near Manchester and was 18 years old. He is remembered on the Basra Memorial, the Regiment Chapel at Manchester Cathedral and on the lych gate of St Stephen's Church, Audenshaw. Lived 32 Hanover Street South, Audenshaw.
