Location Information

Briastre is a village situated 9 kilometres north-west of the Le Cateau-Cambrésis in the Department of the Nord. The Communal Cemetery is situated on the Rue du Dr. Eloir. 


History Information

Briastre Communal Cemetery contains one Commonwealth burial of the First World War, that of an officer who died in the Battle of Le Cateau in August 1914.


Burial Details


2nd Lieutenant Alfred John Harold Ryder Widdowson, 2nd Bn. South Lancashire Regiment, died 25th August 1914, aged 20. Son of Alfred John and Alice Widdowson of "Calthorpe" 26 Burford Road, Whalley Range, Manchester.
