The Hague General Cemetery
Location Information

The Hague lies 24 kilometres north-west of Rotterdam, 60 kilometres south-west of Amsterdam and the same distance west of Utrecht. 

The entrance to the General Cemetery is situated in the Kerkhoflaan.
On entering the cemetery, the war graves are reached by taking the first path on the left and then the fourth path on the right.


Historical Information

There are 55 Commonwealth burials of the 1914-1918 war commemorated here, 22 of which are unidentified. There is 1 non world war burial.

"Aboukir", Royal Marine Light Infantry, died 22nd September 1914, aged 26. Son of Alexander and Dorothy Froggatt; husband of Louisa Priscilla Froggatt, of 160, Ashmore Rd., Maida Hill, London. Born in London. His headstone bears the inscription "Dearly Loved & Sadly Missed By His Sorrowing Wife & Little Son L. & K. F."

Royal Marine Light Infantry, died 22nd September 1914, aged 38. Husband of Emily Holman, of 62, Arlington St., Packington St., Islington, London. His headstone bears the inscription "Thy Will Be Done"

 Husband of M. J. Medhurst, of 11, Gillespie Rd., Highbury, London. Served in the Somaliland Expedition (1902-4).

112414 Officer's Steward 1st Class, Samuel Charles Smith, H. M. S. Cressy.", Royal Navy, died 22nd September 1914, aged 52. Son of Samuel and Mary Smith.

78793 Leading Seaman William Egleton Springall,
(R.F.R./CH/B/5437). H.M.S. "Cressy." Royal Navy, died 22nd September 1914, aged 35. Son of John Springall; husband of Mrs. Springall, of 25, Earl St., Plumstead, London. His headstone bears the inscription "He Died The Noblest Death A Man May Die Fighting For Right For Us & Liberty"

CH13265 Private Matthew Wing, H. M. S. "Aboukir," 
Royal Marine Light Infantry, died 22nd September 1914, aged 32.
Son of James Wing; husband of C. L. Wing, of 38, Rase St., Delce, Rochester, Kent. His headstone bears the inscription "In Loving Memory Of My Dear Beloved Husband Gone But Not Forgotten"

Royal Marine Light Infantry, died 22nd September 1914, aged 30. His headstone bears the inscription "A Loving Son, A Brother So Kind A Beautiful Memory He Has Left Behind"
