Son of Arthur John and Elizabeth Beaven, of Clifford St., Parramatta, New South Wales.

His headstone bears the inscription; "Lord Abide With Him And With His Loved Ones Bereft In Australia."


A telephone mechanic prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard RMS Osterley on 15 January 1916. Pte Beaven died, aged 22, on 27th July 1916 in the No 44 Casualty Clearing Station, France of wounds received in action on 25th July 1916, during the Pozieres campaign.

31st August 1916, aged 25.
Plot II. F. 34.

A farmer from Nook, Tasmania prior to enlistment, Pte Bryan embarked with the 15th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Anchises on 14 March 1916. Later transferring to the 46th Battalion he was wounded in action and, on 31 August 1916, aged 25, he succumbed to his wounds and was buried in the Puchevillers British Cemetery, France.

Edward Lionel Austin Butler

23rd August 1916.

Son of Edward Henry and Fanny Amy Butler, of Sandy Bay, Hobart, Tasmania.

His headstone bears the inscription; "It Is As A Soldier He Will Stand Before The Great White Throne."


A solicitor prior to enlistment, 2 Lt Butler embarked with the 16th Reinforcements from Melbourne on RMS Orontes on 29th March 1916.

At about 5.p.m.On 23rd August 1916, 2nd Lt. Butler was hit by fragments of shell whilst in the support lines at Mouquet Farm, one of which severed his leg. He was taken back by stretcher bearers but died of his wounds later the same day.

13th August 1916, aged 22.

Son of Charles and Elizabeth Ann Chenoweth, of Gawler, South Australia. Native of Wasleys, South Australia.

His headstone bears the inscription; "In Memory Of The Beloved Son Of E. & C. Chenoweth Gawler, S.A. (Aged 22)."

A carpenter from Willaston, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 21 September 1915 aboard HMAT Star of the Sea (A15) for Suez. He was transferred to the 50th Battalion in late February 1916 and appointed Temporary Lance Corporal (L Cpl) on 1 March 1916. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France during early June 1916. L Cpl Chenoweth died of wounds received in action near Albert, France.

Thomas George Clark

Son of Alfred and Agnes Clark, of Pompoota, Murray River, South Australia.

A 20 year old farm hand prior to enlisting on 3 September 1914, he embarked for overseas with F Company from Hobart, Tasmania aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) on 20 October 1914. While serving at Gallipoli with the 12th Battalion, he was wounded in action and evacuated to Malta for medical treatment. Seven weeks later, he returned to Gallipoli and then after the evacuation to Egypt, he transferred to the 52nd Battalion. Following promotion to Lance Corporal, he went with the battalion to France in June 1916 and the next month was promoted to Corporal. Cpl. Clark was wounded in action at Mouquet Farm, Pozieres and underwent medical treatment but died from his wounds three days later on 7 September 1916.

Son of William Albert and Emily Violet Mary Collins.

His brother, Private B. J. Collins later gave these details; 

"He was my brother and was hit by a shell at Pozieres on August 15th. His arm was almost cut off, Corporal Watt cut his arm away and placed him by a little dug-out. A second shell came over an hit him in the head and leg. He was sent away at 3.a.m. the next morning, he died in one of the hospitals, I have written home about him. He was only 17 years of age." (CWGC give age as 18.)

Son of George Henry and Ellen K. Cook. Native of Swansea, Tasmania.

His headstone bears the inscription; "Thy Will Be Done O Lord."


A labourer from Swansea, Tas prior to enlistment, Pte Cook embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Afric on 5 January 1916. Later transferring to the 52nd Battalion, he was wounded in action and, on 6 September 1916, he succumbed to his wounds.

His headstone bears the inscription; "For Ever With The Lord."


A cabinet maker of Brisbane, Qld, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 8th Reinforcements on HMAT Kyarra on 3 January 1916 . He died of wounds received at Pozieres, France.

Son of John Simister Deam and Sarah J. Deam, of Francis St., Bairnsdale, Victoria, Australia.

His headstone bears the inscription; "Greater Love Hath No Man Than This."


John Deam was wounded in the head and shoulder at Pozieres, he managed to leave the trench on foot heading towards the dressing station but later died of his wounds at Puchevillers.

Son of Richard and Margaret Dwyer. Native of Tamworth, New South Wales.

Pte Dwyer enlisted on 5 August 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Mooltan on 11 December 1915. He died 23 July 1916 of wounds he received at Pozieres, France, aged 23 years.
