Son of Jane and the late Benjamin Evans, of Woodfield, Victoria, Australia.

His headstone bears the inscription; "The Path Of Duty Was The way To Glory."

Hugh was admitted to No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station, Puchevillers on 6th August 1916 suffering from gun shot wounds to the leg and arm (severe). He died the following day.

From Paddington, Sydney, NSW. Son of the late George and late Elizabeth Flood of Narrandera, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 20 December 1915. He died, aged 26, on 24 July 1916 at the 44th Casualty Clearing Station in the field, France, of wounds received in action at Pozieres on 23 July 1916.

A native of Chippenham, Wiltshire, England, Pte Fortune was employed as a labourer at Alphington, Vic prior to enlistment. He embarked with the 8th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Afric on 5 January 1916. On 7 August 1916, aged 26, he died of wounds received in action at Pozieres.

Son of David and Ann Gilmore, of Greenridge, Richmond River, New South Wales. Native of Manning River, New South Wales.

His headstone bears the inscription; "The Lord Gave And The Lord Hath Taken Away."


Died of wounds at No. 44 Casualty Clearing Station, Puchevillers. He had been admitted on 13th August 1916 with a fractured skull, the result of a gun shot wound.

(Note: Australian medical records record his date of death as 14th August 1916, CWGC records give a date of death as 15th August 1916.)

From Elaine, Vic. Pte Gordon enlisted on 23 July 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Demosthenes on 29 December 1915. On 7 August 1916 he died of wounds sustained at Mouquet Farm, France.

Son of Charles Western Gregson and Elizabeth Gregson; husband of Christina Gregson of Piangil, Victoria, Australia.

From Swan Hill, Victoria. A 30 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 16 December 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 10th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 7 March 1916 aboard HMAT Wiltshire. He joined the 24th Battalion at Pozieres in France on 5 August 1916 and two days later was wounded in action. That same day, 7 August 1916, he died of his wounds.

"When Days Are Dark & Friends Are Few My Dear Husband I Long For You."

Francis was admitted to No.44 Casualty Clearing Station at Puchevillers on 7th August 1916, he was unconscious and suffering from a Gun Shot wound to the head, he died later the same day.
