Location Information

Rouvrel is a small village in the Department of the Somme, some 20 kilometres south-east of Amiens. It is located just north of the D920 between Ailly-sur-Noye and Moreuil. The cemetery is on the road to Dommartin. The war grave will be found at the rear of the cemetery.


History Information

Rouvrel Communal Cemetery contains one Commonweatlh burial of the First World War.

31st March 1918, aged 35.


Master of Belhaven. Croix de Guerre with Palm (France). Son of 10th Baron Belhaven and Stenton and Lady Belhaven and Stenton, of Wishaw House, Wishaw, Lanarkshire; husband of Lady Grizel Hamilton.

His headstone bears the inscription "Born Feb. 22. 1883 Served From 1914 to 1918 Killed In Defence Of Amiens Ride"

Killed when a shell burst under his horse, the second time that had happened. This time it was fatal. The grave is near the north-west corner at the rear of the cemetery
