Son of William Kearse Adams and Lizzie Adams, of 26, Henry St., North Croydon, South Australia. Native of Alberton, South Australia.
Studio portrait of 684 Private (Pte) William Thomas Adams, 7th Battalion, of Port Adelaide, SA. With three years service in the senior cadets in Broken Hill, and employed as an engineer before enlisting in August 1914, Pte Adams left Australia in October 1914. Landing at Gallipoli as part of the second wave attack on 25 April 1915, Pte Adams was officially listed as killed in action sometime between the 25th April and 2 May 1915. Pte Adams' younger brother, Trooper (Tpr) Hugh George Adams, 9th Light Horse, also served on Gallipoli, and in a letter to his parents two months later wrote: "Several days ago I managed to get over to where Bill's company was and met his mate who told me the bad news; Bill got through the wonderful charge allright - but - was shot through the head while in the trenches on the 3rd day". To his mother Tpr Adams writes: "God bless you, though, and cheer you up Mum: Bill died a hero fighting for his country so be consoled with the knowledge that your first son died bravely in honour and glory to save his family and countrymen from an approaching enemy". Pte William Adams was killed three days short of his 21st birthday, and is buried at Lone Pine Cemetery.

Both embarked for overseas with C Company 8th Battalion from Melbourne on 19 October 1914 aboard HMAT Benalla (A24). After a stopover in Albany, Western Australia, they arrived in Egypt on 2 December 1914. Following further training in Egypt, the battalion took part in the Gallipoli landings on 25 April as part of the second wave. Lt Barrett was a 32 year old station overseer prior to being appointed a Lieutenant in the AIF on 28 August 1914. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. Sgt Couve was a 24 year civil servant prior to enlisting on 21 August 1914 and he was promoted to Sergeant the next day. Following promotion to Second Lieutenant on 28 April 1915, he was killed in action on 8 May 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Cape Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave. This image is from the collection of brothers Lt Alan Crawford Couve and 2nd Lt Henry Thomas Ladson Couve from Dandenong, Victoria. They photographed members of their unit in Egypt prior to serving at Gallipoli where they both died.

His final unit was listed on the First World War Nominal Roll as the 6th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps. He served in the Army Medical Corps, CMF, prior to enlistment.
