Son of Alfred S. and Catherine Ash, of Wanalta Rd., Glenhuntly, Victoria.

A railway porter from Maryborough, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Ash embarked with D Company from Melbourne on HMAT Runic on 20 June 1916. Later transferring to the 15th Australian Light Railway Operating Company, he was wounded in action and, on 13 August 1917, aged 19, died as a result of his wounds.

Son of Samuel Sandoe Bice and Mary Bice, of Katharine St., Fullarton Est., South Australia. Born Port Augusta.


An office clerk in Broken Hill before he enlisted with B Section, 7th Field Ambulance as a Private on 15 March 1915 and sailed on HMAT Geelong from Adelaide on 31 May 1915. Sgt Bice was promoted to Sgt in the field and was awarded the MM and a MID for his actions on 20 September 1917 by guiding stretcher bearers throught heavy shell bombardments and for the 'many occasions where he has shown the upmost gallantry'.
