Vaulx-Vraucourt is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, about 6.5 kilometres north-east of Bapaume.
From Bapaume take the D956 in the direction of Douai. Continue for 3 kilometres then turn right onto the D10E towards Vaulx Vraucourt. Vaulx Australian Field Ambulance Cemetery is a further 2 kilometres along this road, set approximately 200 metres in a field on the right.
Historical Information
Vaulx-Vraucourt was taken in the spring of 1917, lost (after severe fighting) in March 1918, and retaken in the following September.
Vaulx Australian Field Ambulance Cemetery was begun in April 1917 and used until February 1918. The Germans then buried in it,and one further Commonwealth burial was made in August.
The cemetery contains 52 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, one of which is unidentified, and 61 German war graves.

From Wagga Wagga, NSW. Pte Mooney enlisted on 28 March 1916; assigned to the 56th Battalion, he embarked for France on 25 October 1916 aboard A11 Ascanius. He also served with the 10th Battalion. While attached to the 19th Battalion with regimental number 2940/B, he died of wounds near Vaulx, Pas de Calais, France on 4 May 1917.

Son of Patrick and Ellen O'Brien, of Neil St., Toowoomba, Queensland.
From Toowoomba, Qld. Prior to enlisting in June 1916, he worked as a milling engineer at the Defiance Flour Mill in Toowoomba. Pte O'Brien embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT Clan MacGillivray (A46) with the 15th Reinforcements on 7 September 1916. They arrived in England in November 1916 and joined up with the 25th Battalion in France on 16 December 1916, spending the winter in the trenches of the Somme Valley. Pte O'Brien was wounded in action at Bullecourt, France, when a bomb dump exploded. He died the next day, 23 April 1917, at a dressing station in nearby Vaulx-Vraucourt. Pte O'Brien was 20 years of age.
