Son of Isabel Frances Main, of "Wingewarra," Richmond, New South Wales, and the late Rev. James Taylor Main, M.A. Native of Dubbo, New South Wales.


Pre war studio portrait of 424 Private (Pte) Ronald Stuart Main, 19th Battalion. A labourer from Richmond, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Main embarked with A Company from Melbourne on HMAT Ceramic on 25 June 1915. Following his service at Gallipoli, he went on to serve in France where he was wounded in action and evacuated to England. After recovering he returned to his unit and, on 27 February 1917, aged 22 was killed in action and was buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.

Studio portrait of 2436 Private (Pte) Eric Shields Mathews, 19th Battalion from Riverstone, NSW. A 25 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 21 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements from Sydney on 5 October 1915 aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32). He joined the 19th Battalion in France where he was killed in action at Flers on 14 November 1916.

A farmer prior to enlistment Pte McCulloch embarked with the 16 Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. Pte McCulloch was killed in action in France on 26 February 1917, aged 29.

Cpl McDonald enlisted on 23 July 1915 and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT Ballarat on 6 September 1915. Cpl McDonald, aged 26, was killed in action on 15 November 1916 in France and is buried in Warlencourt British Cemetery.

A shop assistant prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 May 1915. He was killed in action, on 19 November 1916, in France, on his way to the front line trench, aged 29.

Son of Charles and Catherine Penn, of Prince St., Grafton, New South Wales.


Studio portrait of 1685 Private (Pte) Joseph Henry Penn, 25th Battalion. A printer from Grafton, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Penn embarked with C Company from Brisbane on HMAT Aeneas on 25 June 1915. While serving at Gallipoli, he became ill and was evacuated to Alexandria. Later serving in France, he was declared as missing in action. A subsequent court of enquiry determined that he had been killed in action on 14 November 1916, aged 20. Following the Armistice his remains were recovered and interred in the Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.

Son of James John and Frances Pye, of Riverstone, New South Wales. Native of Schofield, New South Wales.

Studio portrait of 5713 Private (Pte) Alfred Rose Pye 18th Battalion of Riverstone, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting in May 1916 he embarked on board HMAT Euripides (A14) on 9 September 1916. Pte Pye was killed in action at Le Sars, Bapaume, France on 26 February 1917. He was 18 years of age. Pte Pye was a cousin to Lieutenant Colonel Cecil Pye DSO, killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917 and buried in Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery and to Lieutenant Raymond Elton Pye, killed in action in France on 17 May 1916 and buried in Brewery Orchard Cemetery.
